Ivar Kandapura and Makali , Karnataka : Stories from Mahabharatha

There are plenty of places in India where people from Ramayana and Mahabharata period stayed. We found one of such place around Bangalore where Pancha Pandavas stayed here for a while and it was a small village called Ivar Kandapur.

Its located near by Bangalore - Tumkur road towards shivakote. we did asked the village people there and also priest to find out the information. As per the legend, the Pandavas spent part of their vanavasa at this place. Here Pandavas installed Lord Shiva Shrine

Legend says this was installed by Arjuna

Legend says this was installed by Nakula

Legend says this was installed by Sahadeva

Kalabhairava Temple

Legend says this was installed by Dharmaraju.
This is named as Dharmeshwar Temple and only this temple is open for regular pooja and Abhishek. During our visit, there was a abhishek and followed by prasam distribution and also explained the history of this place by Priest.

 Dedicated to Kunthi maatha ji
This was for Bhima and its out side of the compound on the right hand side from the main road temple entrance

Apart from this village, the Pandavas also visited Makali near by where Bheema consecrated a shrine for Shiva. This is known as Bheemeshwara temple. This is our next destination. Its around 18KM from Ivar Kandapur.

Interesting to see there are small holes on the rocks which indicate that Pandavas used to play dice here.

As per the legend it is believed that there is foot print of Bheema himself. During our visit there was some water inside the foot print. So tried to take out water from here to see the actual foot and here it looks like this.....one can imagine how tall and big was Bheema!
